Prof. IIkka Kunnamo, MD, PhD
born 1955, developed the original idea of Evidence-Based Medicine Guidelines, a comprehensive electronic guideline database published by Duodecim Medical Publications Ltd., Finland, and served as its editor-in-chief between 1988 and 2008. He now serves as the editor-in-chief of the international version, which has been translated into 10 languages. Since 1986 he has worked as general practitioner at Karstula in Central Finland. In 2009 he was appointed adjunct professor of general practice at the University of Helsinki. He currently develops a comprehensive multilingual decision support service (Evidence-Based Medicine Electronic Decision Support, EBMEDS, www.ebmeds.org) utilizing coded  data from electronic health records and providing patient-specific reminders, interactive algorithms, smart questionnaires, and population health tools.  He has published research papers in informatics, guidelines, polypharmacy, rheumatology, gastroenterology, sinusitis, and diabetes care. He is a member of the GRADE working group, a member of the Executive Board of DynaMed, EBSCO Health, an Editorial Advisor of BioMed Central (London), a founding member of the G-I-N Implementation Working Group and the Multimorbidity Working Group. In 2014 - 2018 he served as chair of the WONCA (World organization of family physicians) Working Party on eHealth.
 

 
Jaime Correia de Sousa, MD, MSc, PhD

Born: 18/03/1955 in Porto, Portugal. Lives in Porto.

Working positions and placements

  • Associate Professor at the School of Medicine in the University of Minho, Portugal since 2004. Since 2008, Head of the Scientific Area of Community Health.
  • A Family Physician in a group practice in Matosinhos, Porto since November 1999.
  • Doctoral degree (PhD) in the University of Minho in 2011. Thesis: Patient enablement and the management of asthma: a study in family practice.
  • Coordinator of several Curricular Units in the Integrated Masters in Medicine of the School of Medicine of the University of Minho since 2004.
  • Tutor of Vocational Training Trainees (Residents) in Family Medicine since 1992.  
  • Teacher of Family Medicine in the Health Sociology Masters Program organised by the Institute of Social Sciences in the University of Minho, Portugal in 2004-05 and 2006-07.
  • Masters of Public Health (MSc) degree in the University of Porto in 1999.
  • In 1994 was appointed Director of the Northern Institute of General Practice of Northern Portugal (aimed at GP Vocational Training and CME). In 1999 the Institute was discontinued and its tasks undertaken by other organisations.
  • Became a full-trained Family Physician in 1991; worked as a Family Physician in the same Health Centre (HC) until 1994.
  • In 1990 moved to Ermesinde, Porto. Director of the Health Centre.
  • From 1984 to 1990 worked as a General Practitioner in Leça da Palmeira, a suburb of Porto.
  • Became a General Practitioner in March 1983 and worked in Madeira Island for 10 months.
  • Graduated from medical school in 1978.

  • Chair of the Portuguese Primary Care Respiratory group (GRESP) a working party within the APMGF (Portuguese Association of General and Family Medicine) 2010-2015.
  • Member of the Scientific Committee of the Portuguese Journal of Family Practice. Chief-Editor of the Journal 2005-2007.
  • Member of the National Board of the APMGF (Portuguese Association of General and Family Medicine) from 1987-1992. Chair of the General Assembly 2000-2014.
  • Member of the National Board of the "Ordem dos Médicos" (Portuguese Medical Association) from January 1993 to 1998.
  • Head of Delegation of "Ordem dos Médicos" at the UEMO (European Union of General Practitioners) 2011-2014.
